Classes and Events at The Merry Hooker Woolens

Once-A-Month Studio Days

Join us in The Merry Hooker Woolens' studio in the Jack London Square area of Oakland, CA for our (usually) once-a-month Studio Day. We bring our fiber-related projects to work on and enjoy each others company with good conversation, laughter and creative inspiration. No formal teaching takes place at this event but you can usually find help, advice or opinions if you have the need.

This event is free but we do require an RSVP because space is limited. Sign up for our occasional Newsletter to receive an invitation to our Studio Day.

We do our best to host our gathering in the studio on the last Saturday of the month. Sometimes life gets in the way and we either change the date or need to cancel. This is a good place to keep up with our schedule.

Our next Studio Day will be on June 27, 2015 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM...

Looking Ahead...

  • Our July Studio Day will be on the 25th.
  • Our August Studio Day will be on the 29th.
  • September's Studio Day will be on the 26th.

Bog Class with Sharon Smith...Sorry, This Class is Full

Join us for a special day in the studio with Sharon Smith from Off the Hook Rugs and create your own table-top Fiber Bog…

This class is intended to be a light-hearted & fun day that will stimulate your creative energy. As we create our hooked & needle felted bogs, Sharon will help us explore the use of alternative and found materials such as shells, dried weeds, textured yarns, Sari silks, bits of fabric & roving, lace… let your imagination run wild as you collect your materials!

Sharon will bring a nice collection of materials to share (if you’ve ever gone to the Alameda market with Sharon as Marita has, you’ll know she has an excellent eye for finding great “stuff” to use in her creative endeavors) but you may gather your own inspirational materials as well.

Open Class Time in The Merry Hooker Woolens Studio

Want to steam and finish that rug, brush up on or improve your hooking technique, need advice on colors, finishing techniques, get a good start on a new project, or???

Join Marita in the studio during our new biweekly open class sessions and work on your project in an encouraging, relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. Instruction and guidance are available in a range of fiber arts-related techniques including rug hooking, color planning, appliqué, hand sewing and knitting*.

This winter and early spring, we’ll host late afternoon to early evening sessions designed to accommodate busy work schedules (and better parking availability in the Jack London Square neighborhood!).

There is plenty of room for several people during these sessions but we do ask that you sign up so that we can be prepared for everyone’s needs.
